Application eligibility

[Application Qualification 1]
University Entrance Qualification

Refer "Undergraduate Application Handbook" for details.
 

Among those who have applied and been admitted with the expectation of graduating/completing high school or passing the final exam, those who could not graduate/complete high school or pass the graduation exam by March 31, 2027 for spring enrollment or by September 20, 2027 for fall enrollment will not be able to enroll.

①High school (including secondary education school) graduates or those who are expected to graduate
②Completed (or scheduled to complete) the senior curriculum of a special needs school or the third year of a higher college of technology
③Completed an upper secondary course at a special training college designated by MEXT.
④Completed a 12-year standard education curriculum at an educational institution before your date of enrollment* at APU.
⑤Be at least 18 years of age and have passed an official examination that shows academic background equivalent or superior to that obtained from a 12-year standard education curriculum.
⑥Completed (or scheduled to complete) an International Baccalaureate, Baccalaureate, or Abitur qualification between
⑦Completed (or scheduled to complete) a 12-year curriculum at an educational institution accre dited by an international accreditation body (WASC, CIS, ACSI,NEASC,Cognia,NCA CASI,NWAC,SACS CASI,COBIS)
⑧In addition to the above received (or expecting to receive) recognition as possessing academic abilities equivalent to a Japanese senior high school graduate pursuant to Article 150 of the School Education Act Enforcement Regulations

English language proficiency must meet one of the following criteria.

English proficiency is not required for 1st year enrollees and Japanese basis applicants.(except for some entrance examinations)

[Notes]

*Examination results related to language proficiency will be valid only if the examination date on the certificate is on or after October 1, 2024.
*For the TOEFL iBT® Test (TOEFL iBT® Home Edition also possible), in addition to Test Date Scores, you may also apply using MyBest™ Scores.
*The TOEFL iBT® Test score has changed. If you take the test on or before January 20, 2026, your score will be shown as ‘75’. If you take the test on or after January 21, 2026, your overall score will be shown as ‘4.0’.
*For IELTS and IELTS Online, applicants must have a minimum of 5.5 in each category for the 1st year English basis application and 6.0 in each category for the 2nd and 3rd year English basis application. One Skill Retake (IELTS One Skill Retake) will also be accepted.
*For TOEIC®(L&R/ S&W), the combined score is indicated by multiplying the TOEIC®S&W score by 2.5.
*Eiken Test also includes Eiken CBT, Eiken S-CBT, and Eiken S-Interview. In addition, students will be evaluated based on their Eiken CSE score regardless of whether they pass or fail the examination.
*GTEC must be an official score only.
*Cambridge English Qualifications includes Linguaskill.

 

ⒷThose who have obtained or expect to obtain an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma in English.

 

ⒸThose who are recognized by APU as having sufficient English language skills, such as those who have taken all subjects (excluding language education subjects) in English in principle during the equivalent period of Japanese Junior high school and Senior high school, and those who are native speakers of English.
