Akitaka Nakatomi
College of Asia-Pacific Studies, Graduated in 2019
Entered graduate school at the University of Leeds (United Kingdom)
Having grown up in China, where academic achievement is highly emphasized, I devoted myself solely to my studies until high school. Seeking to acquire the skills needed to become an internationally minded professional, I chose to enroll at APU. During my time at the university, I actively participated in various student organizations. One particularly memorable experience was serving as a Teaching Assistant (TA) for classes aimed at first-year university students and high school students. Through exchanging ideas with my international peers and learning from prospective students, I came to understand that the greatest appeal of group activities lies in the opportunity for mutual and synergistic growth. As I continued to engage with students and faculty members from around the world, my interest in environmental education in Europe deepened. This led me to decide to study Environment and Development at the University of Leeds, where I could engage in extensive field research across a wide range of areas. After completing my graduate studies, I aspire to work for international organizations such as the United Nations or the OECD, where I hope to make use of the cross-cultural understanding and knowledge I cultivated at APU.
