Comprehensive Selection

  • Can I apply for more than one application type?
    Yes, if you meet the application qualifications.
  • How many words do I have to write for my Application Essay?
    The Application Essay should be between approximately 400-500 words in English. Please make sure to read the question carefully and be specific in your answers.
  • Are only applicants who have achieved or are above the standards of activity/achievement listed in the Undergraduate Application Handbook eligible to apply for the "Admissions by Activity Evaluation"?
    No, the standards listed in the Undergraduate Application Handbook is only a guide and is not a criterion for acceptance or rejection. For example, in the evaluation of activities in the field of sports, the size of the competition, position (role) within the group,etc will also be considered. If the applicant has achievements and accomplishments in more than one activity, the evaluation will be based on the combined achievements and accomplishments of multiple activities.
  • Due to the spread of the new coronavirus infection, competitions and certification examinations, etc. have been cancelled or postponed. What should I do in such cases?
    If you wish to include in the “Extracurricular Activities Report”, information on competitions or qualification examinations that have been cancelled or postponed due to the spread of new coronavirus infection, please prepare and submit documents objectively showing that you were planning to participate in or had prepared for such competitions or qualification examinations, in addition to the fact that they have been cancelled or postponed.
  • I studied abroad at a school in a foreign country during my high school. Is there an application type that allows students to take advantage of their overseas experience?
    Yes, "Admissions for Returnee Students" is designed for students with experience studying outside Japan (returnee students). You can also use "Admissions by Activity Evaluation" as this application type also evaluates international experiences such as study abroad. As both of these application types accept April and September admissions, you can choose the timing that best suits you.
  • We would like to know about the required documents and preparations for the Admissions by Activity Evaluation.
    The high school transcript is one of the required documents for the application. Details of the documents required for application are listed on p. 43 of the Application Handbook.   • Would an internship be counted as one of my activity achievements?
    The University is unable to answer whether or not this will be counted as an achievement in your activity appeal. Please use your own judgment and include this information in your activity report. If you have a certificate, you can include it in the report.
  • Under the section on how to submit scores for English external certification tests as proof of English proficiency, it is written that for the Eiken S-CBT, you should upload a certificate of passing or a certificate of Eiken CSE score for the level you have passed. On the other hand, in the English Proficiency section of the Admissions for Activity Evaluation, it says that the score will be evaluated according to the EIKEN CSE2.0 score regardless of whether the applicant passes or fails the EIKEN S-CBT or EIKEN S-CBT. If the score of the failed EIKEN Level 1 is higher than the score of the passed EIKEN Level 2, is it correct to submit the score of the failed EIKEN Level 1?
    Thank you for your question. You are correct in your understanding. If your Eiken Level 1 score is higher, please submit that. (The test date must be after October 1, 2021 to be valid.)
  • How do I write on the downloaded documents, etc.?
    Each form is available as an editable PDF file, so please use your computer or other device to fill in the form. Please download the PDF files to your own computer before fill in. The PDF viewing software "Adobe Acrobat Reader" can be used to input the data. If other software is used, or if you use Internet browser, problems may occur, such as "text cannot be inputted" or " inputted information can not be shown when printed. Before submitting your application, please check that it will display properly on your computer environment. Admissions for International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Students/Admissions for Returnee Students

  • Because I am enrolled in a school overseas, it is difficult for me to come to Japan for an interview.
    Interviews are carried out online so there is no need for you to come back.
  • Are there required courses/compulsory/ to be taken in the IB DP for some faculties?
    You may apply for the Admissions for International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Students if you meet the application requirements. The same application requirements apply to all faculties.

  • I know the recommendation letter is required only for those who applicable, but can you tell me who is applicable?
    The Letter of Recommendation (Form F) is for applicants who are applying for the Admissions for Returnee Students.

September Admissions

  • I am from a Japanese high school. Can I take the September Admissions?
    September Admissions is open to all high school or secondary school graduates in Japan (or those who are expected to graduate), not just those from foreign schools or international schools.
  • Is it possible to apply for both the "Fall Admissions by Activity Evaluation and "Fall Admissions for Returnee Students"?
    Yes. However, as application qualifications, screening method, and screening schedule differ depending on the application type, please make sure to check the Undergraduate Application Handbook for details.

Transfer

  • I am not sure if my educational background meets the eligibility requirements.

  • I am considering transferring to the 3rd year. Can I find out in advance how many credits will be transferred to APU?
    You will be notified of the number of transfer credits approved when you receive your enrollment procedure documents. Please note that we can NOT notify you beforehand.
