The numbers above are combined totals for three application periods.
Depending on application numbers and examination results, the number of acceptances actually issued may be less than the number of students listed above. In that case, the shortfall will be recruited from applicants in other entrance examination streams.

2. Screening Methods and Schedules

(1) Screening

Applicants will be evaluated comprehensively based on submitted application documents and Interview (in English / for about 15 minutes).

Those applying on English basis must complete Entry sheet B and the Essay in English.
Applicants will be asked to attend an interview. The content of the interview mainly consists of questions and answers based on submitted application documents.

【Criteria for Evaluation】

  • Interest in and awareness of APU
  • Interest in and awareness of College of choice
  • Capacity for developing and expressing ideas logically
  • Accuracy of written expression
  • At senior high school or equivalent-academic achievements and results and achievements in self-motivated extra-curricular activities
  • Level of English language proficiency (TOEFL(R) etc)
  • A comprehensive evaluation of "Adequacy of response", "Communication abilities", "Motivation for learning at APU" etc

(2) Final determination

Applicants will be judged comprehensively based on the results of both the paper screening and the interview.

3. Application Qualifications

Applicants must fulfill application qualification both 1 and 2.

【Application Qualification 1 : Academic Background】

Applicants must comply with all conditions between (1) and (2) listed below.

(1)Applicants who have desire to enroll in APU, and have intention to enter APU if accepted.
(2)Applicants must fulfill one of the following conditions:

  1. Applicants who have graduated from / completed (or are scheduled to graduate from / complete) high school or secondary school education in Japan by September 20, 2012.
  2. Applicants who have completed (or be scheduled to complete) a standard 12-year curriculum of courses at accredited schools in or outside Japan by September 20, 2012.
  3. Applicants of 18 years of age or above as of September 21, 2011 who have obtained (or are scheduled to obtain) an International Baccalaureate, Baccalaureate, or Abitur by September 20, 2012.
  4. Applicants who are eligible (or are scheduled to eligible) to enroll at a university according to the regulations in Article 150 of Japan's School Education Laws by September 20, 2012.
  5. Applicants who have been judged as possessing equivalent scholastic attainment as listed (a)-(d).

【Application Qualification 2 : Language Ability】

Applicants must fulfill one of the following conditions at the time of application. Japanese language ability is not required at the time of application.

  1. Applicants who have obtained a score of 61 or more on the TOEFL(R) internet based testing.
  2. Applicants who have obtained a score of 700 points or more on the TOEIC(R), or band 5.5 or more on IELTS (Academic), or who have passed Grade pre-1 of EIKEN Test in Practical English Proficiency (実用英語技能検定), or Level B of The United Nations Associations Test of English.
  3. Applicants who have completed their last 6 years of higher education subjects from 12 years of age and up completely in English (excluding foreign language subjects).
  4. Applicants who speak English as a native language
    TOEFL(R)/ ITP and TOEIC(R) / IP scores are not recognized in fulfillment of these application requirements.
    TOEFL(R) and TOEIC(R) and IELTS exam results are valid for two years from the examination date printed or the certificate / statement of results.
