※Depending on application numbers and examination results, the number of acceptances actually issued may be less than the number of students listed above. In that case, the shortfall will be recruited from applicants in other entrance examination streams.
2. Screening Methods and Schedules
(1) First screening : Paper screening
Applicants will be evaluated comprehensively based on submitted application documents.
【Criteria for Evaluation】
- Interest in and awareness of APU
- Capacity for developing and expressing ideas logically
- Accuracy of written expression
- At senior high school or equivalent-academic achievements and results and achievements in self-motivated extra-curricular activities
- Level of English language proficiency (TOEFL(R) etc)
(2) Second screening: Interview (in English / for about 15 minutes)
Applicants who have passed the first screening will be asked to attend an interview.
The content of the interview mainly consists of questions and answers based on submitted application documents.

3. Application Qualifications
Applicants must fulfill application qualification both 1 and 2.
【Application Qualification 1 : Academic Background】
Applicants must comply with all conditions listed below.
(1)Applicants who have desire to enroll in APU, and have intention to enter APU if accepted.
(2) Applicants who have completed or are scheduled to complete a standard 12-year Japanese school education curriculum by March 31, 2012.
(3) Applicants who have been recognized or are scheduled to be recognized, pursuant to the provisions of Article 150 of the enforcement regulations of the School Education Law, as possessing scholastic ability equivalent to or greater than that of a Japanese senior high school graduate by March 31, 2012.
- Applicants who have completed or are schedule to complete a standard 12-year school education curriculum outside Japan by March 31, 2012, or who are Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology to correspond thereto.
- Applicants who have completed or are scheduled to complete a curriculum of courses at a school outside Japan which has been authorized by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology as equivalent to a Japanese senior high school curriculum.
- Applicants who have completed a vocational training school (senshu gakko) advanced course (senmon katei; limited to courses which have a standard duration of at least three years and fulfi ll the conditions prescribed by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) designated by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology after the date prescribed by the same Minister, or who are scheduled to complete such a course by March 31, 2012.
- Applicants who are nominated by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
- Applicants who will reach the age of 18 years by March 31, 2012 and have passed or are scheduled to pass the Certifi cate for Students Achieving the Profi ciency Level of Upper Secondary School Graduates pursuant to the Regulations for the Certifi cate for Students Achieving the Profi ciency Level of Upper Secondary School Graduates (or former University Entrance Qualifi cation Examination) by March 31, 2012.
- Applicants who have entered university pursuant to the provisions of paragraph 2, Article 90 of the School Education Law and who are judged by APU to possess academic ability suitable for university education.
- Applicants who will reach the age of 18 years by March 31, 2012 and have been judged on the basis of an individual screening by APU to have academic ability equal to or greater than that of a Japanese senior high school graduate.
【Application Qualification 2 : Language Proficiency】
Applicants must fulfill one of the following conditions at the time of application. Japanese language ability is not required at the time of application.
- Applicants who have obtained a score of 61 or more on the TOEFL(R) internet based testing.
- Applicants who have obtained a score of 700 points or more on the TOEIC(R), or band 5.5 or more on IELTS (Academic), or who have passed Grade pre-1 of EIKEN Test in Practical English Proficiency (実用英語技能検定) or Level B of The United Nations Associations Test of English.
- Applicants who have completed their last 6 years of higher education subjects from 12 years of age and up completely in English (excluding foreign language subjects).
- Applicants who speak English as a native language
※TOEFL(R) , TOEIC(R) and IELTS exam results are valid for two years from the examination date printed on the certificate / statement of results.
